Zade Meadows is coming to a screen near you. Eventually. Probably. Look, it has been confirmed, and I have been fine about it in a completely normal and not at all unhinged way ever since.
H.D. Carlton announced in July that Haunting Adeline is officially getting a movie. Since then my feed has been full of release dates, casting posters and “leaked” details, and almost none of it is real.
So here is what has actually been confirmed about the Haunting Adeline movie, kept well away from the things TikTok has decided are true. I will update this post as more lands.

Haunting Adeline movie: latest news (September 2026)
Well, well, well. Apparently, things are starting to move behind the scenes. Since Carlton’s July announcement, there has finally been some actual casting news.
Sibby now has an official casting call. Carlton’s official website has listed a casting call for the character. There have also been reports that Zade Meadows has already been cast, but I have not been able to verify an official announcement, and no actor has been publicly named for the role. So for now, the Zade casting rumours are staying firmly in the “interesting, but show me the receipts” pile.
Still no confirmed release date, official trailer or streaming platform. I will keep updating this post as more information is officially announced, and you can check Carlton’s official website for her latest casting news.
Is Haunting Adeline becoming a movie?
Yes. H.D. Carlton confirmed in July 2026 that Haunting Adeline is being adapted into a film. The news broke as a Collider exclusive, and her official website started teasing that a movie is “loading”.
This is the first time the adaptation has been confirmed by the author herself. For years the internet has been full of fan trailers, dream casts and fake “Netflix has picked it up” posts. This time it is real.
When is the Haunting Adeline movie coming out?
There is no release date and no release window. The film is in early development, and no studio or distributor has been announced, which means nobody is in a position to schedule it yet.
If you have seen “Haunting Adeline movie 2027” going around, that comes from video captions, not from Carlton or a studio. It might turn out to be right. It is not confirmed.
Realistically, a film this early in development is unlikely to reach screens before 2027 at the very earliest, and later would not be surprising.
Is it a movie or a TV series?
A movie. Carlton confirmed it is a feature film, not a series, and talked about that choice in a video after the announcement.
I will be honest, my first reaction was “how are they fitting all of that into two hours”, because a lot happens in this book. But a film also means it lives or dies on Zade and Adeline, and that is where the story’s heart is anyway.
Who is cast as Zade Meadows and Adeline?
Not for Zade or Adeline. Sibby, though, finally has an official casting call, the first real casting news this project has had.
Carlton’s official website has listed the open casting call for Sibby. There are reports going around that Zade has already been cast, but I have not been able to verify an official announcement or find an actor’s name attached anywhere, so treat that one as unconfirmed for now. There is also still no confirmed announcement for who will play Adeline.
Any casting poster you have seen for Zade or Adeline, however official it looks, is still fan made or AI generated. The same goes for the trailers. Which means we are all still allowed to fan cast Zade and Adeline in peace, and I fully intend to.
Will the Haunting Adeline movie be on Netflix?
There is no confirmed studio or streaming service, so no. The Netflix rumours have been floating around for years, long before the adaptation was even announced, and they are not true.
Whether it ends up in cinemas or on a streaming service has not been decided publicly.
Will Hunting Adeline be made into a movie too?
Unknown. Nothing has been announced about Hunting Adeline, the second book in the Cat and Mouse Duet. Some coverage has speculated the film could cover the whole duet, but that is not confirmed.
If you have only read book one: the story does not end there. Haunting Adeline is book one, and Hunting Adeline finishes it. Read both.
How will they handle the dark content?
This is the big question, and the honest answer is that nobody knows yet, because there is no script, director or studio to judge.
What has been reported is that Carlton keeps creative control over the adaptation, which matters a lot for a book like this. Fan recaps of her follow-up videos say she wants the heavier scenes handled carefully and the spice kept suggestive rather than explicit on screen. Treat the specifics as unconfirmed until there is an official statement, but the direction sounds right to me.
Why is the Haunting Adeline movie controversial?
Because the book is. Haunting Adeline centres on a stalker romance and includes sexual violence, and plenty of readers do not think that belongs on screen at all. After the announcement, the debate got loud fast, including a petition calling for the project to be dropped.
Carlton responded with a video to readers who had been copping backlash for supporting the film, and said the movie is still on track.
Here is where I land. This book is not for everyone, and it never pretended to be. It comes with warnings for a reason. Dark romance is fiction, readers are allowed to choose it with their eyes open, and people who do not want it are allowed to skip it. Both of those things can be true at once.
Is Haunting Adeline getting a graphic novel?
Yes. Separately from the film, Haunting Adeline is being adapted into comic books and graphic novels. The creative team, covers and preorder details have not been released yet.
