“There are books you read, and then there are books you want to live inside.”

The Gingerbread Bakery by Laurie Gilmore is firmly in the second category. It’s cosy, festive, and packed with small-town charm, slow-burn romance, and enough baked goods to make you want to turn your kitchen into a fictional bakery.

So naturally, this felt like the perfect way to kick off a brand new series here at EmberSas Creations.

Welcome to Bookish Bakes, where stories inspire what’s in the oven.

What Is Bookish Bakes?

Bookish Bakes is an ongoing blog series where favourite romance reads inspire cosy, seasonal recipes. Each bake is designed to feel like a quiet chapter you never wanted to end, best enjoyed with a good book, fairy lights, and a little main character energy.

  • A cosy chapter you never wanted to end
  • Small-town romance energy
  • Baking purely for the vibes

The Book Behind the Bake

The Gingerbread Bakery by Laurie Gilmore is a festive romance filled with small-town charm, holiday magic, and the kind of slow-burn chemistry that makes you stay up reading “just one more chapter.”

  • Small-town romance vibes
  • Festive bakery energy
  • Sweet treats and softer feelings
  • That slow-burn tension we all pretend we don’t love

It’s cosy, comforting, and basically demands to be read with something baking in the oven. This gingerbread recipe is inspired by those bakery scenes, the warm spices, and the kind of holiday magic that only exists in romance novels.
